Stewart County lies in southwestern Georgia, bordering Alabama and including portions of the Chattahoochee River. It was created in 1830 and named for Daniel Stewart. The county seat is Lumpkin. The area remains very rural, with forest, river frontage, farmland, and small town centers. Housing types include older homes in town, rural homes on large parcels, mobile/modular homes, and land ready for building. Because of the very low density and slower growth, home prices tend to be among the lowest in the state—many existing homes possibly in the US $80,000 to $160,000 range depending on size and lot; building new on land might run $150,000 to $250,000+ depending on finish, lot and utilities. The trade-off: more remote, fewer amenities, longer travel for many services; the appeal: strong land-value, quiet lifestyle, low barriers to entry.
